Dear Elkton Hall residents,

Thank you for your continued patience as we thoroughly address the situation in Elkton Hall. We are writing to provide a few updates to the work that is happening in your building and some active tips/strategies moving forward.

We are very pleased to welcome 7th and 8th floor residents back to the building. Remediation contractors and Residential Facilities staff will continue work through the weekend to pack, clean, remediate when necessary, and inspect the 6th floor.

Scheduled returns to Elkton Hall now begin after 8:00 am on specified date

We have made a change to the initial relocation schedule that was sent last week regarding the time frame students may return to the building following remediation efforts.  Residents who are scheduled to return to Elkton Hall can move back into their rooms after 8:00 am on the scheduled return day. Residents must still check out of their hotel no later than 4:00 pm that day.The contracted, professional mold remediation specialists will work daily from 8:00 am-10:00 pm followed by quality assurance checks and inspections from Residential Facilities staff.  Every hour is critical in completing this work thoroughly and we appreciate your patience and adherence to the schedule.

Carpet cleaning

We have learned from our expert contractors that we must remove bedroom carpets from the rooms to provide a deep cleaning. Residential Facilities staff expects this cleaning to take approximately two weeks. Upon completion, your carpet will be delivered to your room. If you need assistance laying your carpet, Residential Facilities staff will be able to assist you. This will not affect the timeline for moving back into your room.

Shuttle service

The Special Elkton Hall Shuttle operates seven days a week from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. on a 40 minute loop. During peak check-in and check-out times between Elkton Hall and the hotels, a second bus will be added to the loop to cut maximum waiting times to 20 minutes.  Daily bus schedules will be available at the Elkton Hall Service Desk and all three hotels

Action items residents can take to help prevent mold growth

The key to mold control is moisture control. Here are some simple tips you can follow to help prevent mold growth:

  • Keep your windows closed.  Open windows allow the humid outside air into your room further compounding the issues we are fighting.
  • It is imperative that you move any furniture or personal belongings at least 12? away from the front of your fan coil unit to allow it to circulate, cool, and dehumidify the air in your room properly.
  • Keep your closet door open slightly to allow air to flow in/out of it
  • Leave your door open while you are in your bedroom, if you are comfortable doing so
  • If you see any mold growth on personal belongings such as shoes or bags, you should clean it off with soap and water.
  • If you see mold growth in your room/unit, please call our 24-hour Service Center at 301-314-9675 to report it, and a member of our staff will respond as quickly as possible.

We invite you to read through the most recent Frequently Asked Questions document which may address any questions you have.  You will also find all the communications shared to date at  You are always welcome to contact us with questions at

We truly appreciate your patience, cooperation and forbearance during this difficult situation.  We have seen some tremendous displays of Terp Pride and want you to know how much we appreciate you!  We look forward to having all Elkton Terps under one roof again soon.
