Keep Connected

The University of Maryland welcomes Dr. Darryll J. Pines as our 34th president. President Pines marks his first day with a video message to the Terp community and a new vision for our campus.
Dear Terps!

Today marks an historic day for UMD as we welcome our new president, Dr. Darryll Pines, to our beloved university, I know you’ll be just as energized as I am by his vision, passion and dedication to Maryland and the student experience. I’ve had the good fortune to work with President Pines over the last few months as we’ve shared hopes, ideas and plans for the upcoming academic year and beyond.

I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the leadership of President Wallace Loh and thank him for his devotion to the Maryland community. Under his leadership, our campus witnessed a decade of tremendous growth and I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to work with him. I am also very happy that I was able to receive one of his signature turtle pins from him directly.  I wear it with Maryland Pride.

With a new university president starting today, campus life will be invigorated. But, I know this is not the only thing that will affect our fall semester together as you are managing many aspects of a global pandemic personally, responding to and affected by an insurgence of racial and social injustice, impacted by the economic downturn and so much more! Things on campus will be different than what you left behind in the spring semester. While there are many changes, one thing that won’t change - what will never change - is my/our commitment to you and ensuring you have a transformative student experience. We stand ready to support you in all ways possible, both on and off campus.  We will listen to your concerns and care for you and support you as you develop into bold, brilliant and beautiful Terps. Things will be different and many things will be better as we grow and learn by all that surrounds us.  Together we can get through anything for we are TerrapinSTRONG. And, we’ve got you, Terps!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and know that I really look forward to seeing you next month! - Patty

Living & Learning

In response to the current pandemic, our housing arrangements and requirements have changed since students began signing On-Campus Housing and Dining Agreements for 2020-2021. The Departments of Resident Life, Residential Facilities, and Dining Services have created an addendum that every resident (and parent or guardian for those under 18) will need to agree to and sign before July 17, 2020.

This addendum is available for review at the Fall 2020 Housing website.

We recognize that you and your family may have questions related to this new information. Our staff is here to help. Please email your questions to us at reslife@umd.edu.
