Stay in the know and engaged at UMD

Keep Connected

Vice President for Student Affairs Patty Perillo and student leaders are committed to keeping campus healthy and safe for the upcoming Fall Semester.
Dear UMD Student,

WELCOME to the Terrapin Family for all new graduate students and undergraduate Class of 2024. And, a big welcome back to our returning students.  I have missed you!

Campus has been so quiet and lonely without you here. The University of Maryland is such a beautiful place but without a vibrant, engaged student body to bring it to life – students just like you - it’s missing what makes it a truly special home for our Terrapin family. I – we – simply cannot wait to reconnect with you whether that is in-person, as you return to campus, or virtually as you engage with our community.

We’ve been working hard all summer to prepare campus for your return as we’ve been committed to a gradual, phased and safe reopening of our campus. You can read more about our reopening plans, where we’ve outlined how we’re preparing to care for the health and safety of our campus community, continue to provide you with a world-class education, and keep you informed of all the things you need to know to succeed and be safe at UMD.

What will you do to help keep our community safe?  How will you care for yourself and fellow Terrapins?  What will you commit to doing - like your peers have shared in the video above?  How will you play your part in slowing the spread of this virus so that we can begin our hopeful hybrid-teaching model on September 14?  I know you will make us all proud as you commit to doing your part!

Our entire Division of Student Affairs – all 3000+ of us – and our amazing student leaders are ready to care for and support you in all ways possible, as we work together to keep our campus safe, healthy and well. All that we’re missing now is YOU!

We can’t wait to welcome you home, even if physically distant for now!

Patty Perillo
Vice President for Student Affairs

Please observe posted signs and do your part when you come visit us.

Come get your books or Maryland apparel at the official University Book Center, which has been newly expanded and redesigned! Grab a Starbucks coffee, Maryland Dairy ice cream, or lunch to-go! Please visit stamp.umd.edu for building hours, reopening FAQs, and a list of vendors who are open. #STAMPisHere

Upcoming Events at the University Career Center

Autism & Career Development Workshop | Thursday, August 13, 2020, 4-5 p.m.
Our webinars will explore how autism and career development impact one another. For many students, preparing for a career during the COVID pandemic is highly stressful. For students managing autism, the impact may be greater. Join us to:

  • Identify how career development and autism intersect with one another;
  • Learn strategies to move forward with career preparation during the pandemic;
  • Hear from prominent employers how workplaces support employees balancing autism with professional development.

Panelists include:

  • Teresa Thomas, MITRE, Program Lead, Neurodiverse Talent Enablement and Neurodiversity in the Federal Workforce Pilot program
  • Andrew Eddy, Untapped – Realising the Neurodiversity Advantage www.neurodiversityhub.org/
  • Student participants in the University's SIGNA program.

This workshop is sponsored by the University Career Center and the SIGNA program. For additional information about this event: Contact Nancy Forsythe at nforsyt2@umd.edu

The University Career Center continues to host a variety of workshops and employer sessions for students. Visit our events calendar for a full list of upcoming opportunities at careers.umd.edu/events-calendar.

Health & Wellness

The Counseling Center is here for you throughout the summer. To schedule a virtual appointment with a counselor, call (301) 314-7651 Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

If you didn't get a chance to attend the Counseling Center's virtual mental health workshops, you can check out the recordings for each of the workshops here. And don't forget to follow us on social media to help stay connected to your mental health! You can find us on: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat

Last week, the ERC, Outdoor Aquatic Center, and Climbing Wall reopened. RecWell staff made significant adjustments to the facilities to prioritize your health and safety, including enhanced cleaning protocols, installation of plexiglass shields, and much more. When you visit the facilities, you will notice reduced capacity and that some of our spaces have been “repurposed” to accommodate physically distanced weight room and cardio equipment. In order to prevent overcrowding in our facilities, you will be required to make a reservation prior to arrival. Visit recwell.umd.edu/reservations to learn more about the new policies and to make a reservation to utilize the facilities.

For those unable to join us in person, RecWell will continue to offer virtual fitness, intramural, and adventure activities for the remainder of the summer session and throughout the fall semester. Visit recwell.umd.edu/keepmoving to see all the virtual offerings available.

  • Want to bring your car to campus? All students—including freshmen residents—are eligible for a campus permit! Student parking registration for Fall 2020 and Annual permits is now open on a rolling basis according to credit level. View registration dates
  • The transition back to our parking program began on August 3, and full parking restrictions will resume on August 31 at 7 a.m. Know how this transition affects you
