Dear Residence Hall students,
Living in the residence halls and being a part of the Maryland Residential Experience has many benefits as well as personal responsibilities, particularly during a pandemic. We are writing to inform you about specific residence hall policies essential in keeping each of us and our University community healthy and well this semester.
Beginning immediately and until further notice, the following measures are in effect in the residence halls.

Eating in lounges & common areas is no longer permitted
According to our University Health Center officials, there is strong evidence that eating with others could result in a higher potential to spread the coronavirus due to needing to remove your mask.
Instead, feel free to pick up your meals, eat outside in physically distanced ways if the weather allows, or eat your meal in your room and join others virtually while eating, then meet your friends in the lounge afterward while following physical distancing and mask expectations.

Public health experts remind us that the best defense against the spread of the coronavirus is to wear a well-fitted mask over your nose, mouth, and chin and maintain at least a six-foot distance from others at all times.
Living together in the residence halls, we must remember that adhering to all 4 Maryland expectations is critical to staying healthy and well. Keep wearing your mask when outside your room, stay at least 6 feet away from others, wash your hands frequently, and stay home and away from others if you’re sick.
If you are experiencing symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, you are expected to contact the UHC HEAL Line at (301) 405-4325 to get tested at the University Health Center.
We care deeply about your health, safety, and well-being, and our staff is here to support you. Let’s continue to work together 4 Maryland and to keep our UMD community healthy.
