Planting Healthy Roots: A Plant Decorating Mental Health Event

Did you know growing plants is good for your mental health? Join us to begin growing your indoor garden by decorating your own mini succulent and creating gratitude grams in appreciation for those who have helped you grow strong roots.

Meet Your Mental Health Providers

Join us in a casual setting (with snacks) to meet the UMD staff who provide mental health services to students! Learn about the resources available to you and put a name and face to the network of people who can support you during times of crisis.

Create-a-Zine: Identity and Mental Health

Explore your identities and mental health using art! We'll guide you through the process of creating your own pocket zine (magazine) in a fun and creative way to learn more about yourself and others. No artistic "skill" required!

Depression Screenings

STAMP Southeast Entrance and Student Involvement Suite (SORC)

Depression is one of the most common mental health concerns, so let’s learn the signs to help prevent and treat it. Take a brief depression assessment and talk privately with a Counseling Center staff person about the results. Stop by to learn more about your mental health, find ways to help a friend, or get some information about mental health services on campus.

 

Harvesting Hope: Community Service in the Garden

UMD Community Learning Garden

Doing service is good for your mental health and your community! Join us to learn about sustainable growing practices, help harvest produce for the Campus Pantry, and connect with your fellow Terps. Register for the Event

Self-Care Fair

McKeldin Mall

Join us at the Self-Care Fair–an interactive celebration of mental health–to start your weekend off right! We’ll have therapy dogs, free food, games, carnival activities, prizes, mental health resources, and more! Learn from campus departments, student orgs, and community partners about how we can take care of ourselves and each other.

Maryland v. Indiana Football Game

Saturday, September 30
SECU Stadium

Join Maryland Football as it spreads awareness about mental health. The team will wear green ribbon decals on their helmets, and mental health-focused resources will be shared throughout the game.

 

Wags for Wellness

Monday, October 2

STAMP Student Involvement Suite (SORC)

Wags for Wellness is an Animal Assisted Activity, sponsored by the University Health Center, featuring well-trained and highly skilled volunteer pups. Stop by for lots of love and pets! Advance sign-up is encouraged but not required. Learn more about Wags for Wellness and sign up.

 

Labyrinth Meditation: Connecting in Body, Heart, Mind, and Spirit

Memorial Chapel Garden of Reflection and Remembrance

Join the University Health Center and Memorial Chapel for our Labyrinth Meditation Program. Meet at the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance at the Memorial Chapel for a guided meditation, mindful labyrinth journey, and a free lunch. Guided Visualization Meditation

Join the Health Center to journey from evergreen forests, to moonlit oceans, to galaxies far away - all without leaving the comfort of your own seat. While practicing simple breath work, participants will be guided through peaceful and relaxing imagery to soothe the senses and calm the mind.

In honor of Latinx Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Week, MICA and the Counseling Center will host a lunchtime informal discussion about healthy relationships. Latinx students are invited to share and reflect on relationship patterns and the interaction with cultural norms and stigma. We will discuss strategies for effective interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Naloxone Training

Thursday, October 5

The University of Maryland Health Center is designated as an Overdose Response Program (ORP) through the Maryland Department of Health. As part of this designation, we offer overdose response resources to the UMD community, free of charge. To get your free Naloxone attend a brief training, which goes over how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose, instructions for using Naloxone, and what to do as emergency medical assistance makes its way to you and the person in crisis. Back to Basics Meditation

In this short session, we will have a chance to explore a simple meditation technique each week. Whether you are new to meditation or wanting to enhance your already existing practice, this session is for you. Participants can expect to explore techniques such as focused breathing, body scans, noting, visualizations, and self reflection.

Mental Health First Aid

Saturday, October 7
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches you how to assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In this in-depth training, you will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health challenges, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Please note, this training is broken down into two parts: the 2-hour self-paced modules and the 7-hour live instructor-led session. Register here.
